Gold and climate change

Climate-conscious investment groups have been particularly vocal in calling for more clarity from all sectors regarding their detailed plans to contribute to emissions reduction and climate stability. This research therefore seeks to provide those investors, their advisors, and wider stakeholder groups, with information on the range of opportunities open to gold mining companies in seeking to decarbonise their energy sources, while further clarifying the potential pathway for the industry to a net-zero carbon future.

Silver in a 5G world

5G will be the glue in an ecosystem of improved connectivity between all sorts of devices, and as such, it is expected that connected devices, such as the IoT, will significantly increase over the next five years.
Silver will benefit from this development over the forecast horizon. Everything 5G related will be based on electronic devices, such as semiconductors, MLCCs, MEMS, and many more, which to one degree or another consume various amounts of silver. Thrifting and substitution pressures are always present in electronic applications and we expect that particularly in the case of gold to continue. Silver, on the other hand, will be one of the go-to metals for future 5G enabled electronic applications.

Gold as strategic asset

Gold benefits from diverse sources of demand: as an investment, a reserve asset, a luxury good and a technology component. It is highly liquid, no one’s liability, carries no credit risk, and is scarce, historically preserving its value over time.

Silver important in solar power

Silver is a malleable, white and lustrous precious metal which has the highest electrical and thermal conductivity of all metals. Consequently, its thermal and electrical conductivity properties make it an essential industrial metal. One of the most important industrial uses for silver, alongside electronics, is in photovoltaic (PV) cells, which are the building blocks of solar panels. Silver pastes are a critical part of PV cell manufacturing, where they form a conductive layer on both the front and rear sides of silicon solar cells.to decarbonise their energy sources, while further clarifying the potential pathway for the industry to a net-zero carbon future.

Gold Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

It can sometimes be easy to forget quite how important gold is in our daily lives. We carry it with us in our mobile phones and computers and we wear it as jewellery and in rings. Critically, gold also provides financial resilience – for individuals, communities and countries. Gold provides financial security in time of financial stress, a proven form of investment that is ageless, liquid and dependable.
Gold does not corrode or tarnish over time, which is part of the reason it features so strongly in our thinking about legacy and inheritance, and why in different cultures around the world women and men are so often given gold as a wedding gift.
It is precisely because gold has such an indispensable role to play in society and in the global economy, that it is incumbent on the gold mining industry to demonstrate how it employs business practices based on the clear principles of long-term sustainable development, supporting social and economic development wherever gold is mined.

Silver demand for EVs

Silver is used extensively in electrical contacts throughout a vehicle’s electronic systems, which in turn are mainly used in switches, relays, connectors, breakers and fuses. Silver’s widespread use reflects its superior electrical properties, as well as its excellent oxide resistance and durability under harsh operating environments.

Silver automotive demand is forecast to
rise from an estimated 51Moz (1,600t) last
year to 88Moz (2,700t) in five years’ time.

How the daily fund trading works

1. Placing an order:

The fund order is placed by the investor on each platform.

2. Break time:

Each platform has a break time (usually at 13:00 CET but some may have 11:00 CET).

For orders that are placed before the break time, fund units are bought/sold at the unit price that is set in the morning the next day (usually around 11:00 CET) based on the order day's closing prices from all markets (USA as the last market).

3. Update of NAV:

The NAV is normally published 2-3 hours later (around 13:00-14:00) by the platforms.

The latest NAV is published earlier on auagfonder.se, you can find it here.

The timing when the fund units are visible on the platform's depot doesn't always correlate with the date and time for when you placed your order.

Note that funds that set NAV for "the same day" does not use the real closing prices but break on the day and also use parts of the price movements from the day before.
